Never-Fail Refrigerator Yeast Dough
(makes dough for 24 rolls)
- 1/4 cup solid all-vegetable shortening
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 t salt
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup very warm water
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
Put shortening, sugar, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Pour boiling water over these ingredients and let cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine beaten egg and dissolved yeast and add to shortening-sugar mixture. Stir in 3 cups of flour with spoon and add as much of the fourth cup of flour as can be stirred in. Shape dough into a ball and place in greased bowl. Cover and place in refrigerator to rise overnight. Dough will stay fresh for 5 to 6 days.
