Whole Wheat Bread

  • 4 cups whole wheat flour, divided
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1/2 cup dry nonfat milk
  • 1 T salt
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 T Crisco
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups white flour

Combine 3 cups wheat flour, yeast, dry milk, and salt in a mixing bowl. Heat water, honey, and Crisco until warm (not hot). Pour over dry mixture. Beat with mixer for 3 min. Add remaining cup of whole wheat flour and white flour. Knead 5 to 10 min or until elastic. Put in covered bowl to rise until doubled. Make into 3 loaves. Let rise 45 min. Bake for 40 to 45 min at 375°.
