Gingerbread

Gingerbread

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2/3 cup melted shortening
  • 2 t soda
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 2 t cinnamon
  • 1 t nutmeg
  • 1 t cloves
  • 1/2 t ginger

Mix sugar, molasses, water and shortening. Mix flour, soda, baking powder, salt, and spices. Add to molasses mixture. Bake at 375° until toothpick comes out clean (30-40 minutes).
