Grandma Stone's Booze Cake

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup pecans
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 t allspice
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 t nutmeg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 t soda
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 2 T bourbon (optional)

Boil raisins in water for 20 minutes and let cool. Drain, reserving 1 cup liquid. Mix together remaining ingredients, raisins, and 1 cup reserved liquid (dissolve soda in liquid first). Bake at 350° until done.

Icing:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg (beaten well)
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 T Bourbon (optional)

Beat ingredients together until smooth and creamy.
