Sheath Cake
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 stick oleo
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 4 T cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 1 t soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 t vanilla
Sift the sugar and flour and set aside. Place oleo, shortening, cocoa, and water in a saucepan and bring to a rapid boil. Cool slightly and combine with flour and sugar. Add soda to buttermilk, then add to mixture. Add vanilla and eggs. Mix well and pour into greased and floured 9 x 13" pan. Bake at 400° for 40 to 50 minutes.
Icing:
- 1 stick oleo
- 6 T milk
- 4 T cocoa
- 1 box powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 t vanilla
Mix together oleo, cocoa, and milk. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add enough powdered sugar to make icing of spreading consistency. Add vanilla. Beat well. Spread on cake while warm.
